Oral Appliances for Sleep Apnea

	The TAP III appliance has seperate upper and lower parts connected by a small hook on the upper and a metal receptacle socket on the lower. It allows for a moderate amount of tongue space and jaw movement and is one of the easiest appliances to adjust.
	The SUAD appliance is a very durable and strong appliance. This is best suited for a patient who clenches or grinds his or her teeth. This appliance has a lot of tongue room and allows for a wide range of jaw movement including opening. The manufacturer warranties this appliance for two years against breakage.
	The Somnomed MAS consists of seperate upper and lower parts and allows for a lot of tongue room and plenty of jaw movement including opening. This appliance is made out of very hard and durable acrylic and would be a good choice for a patient that clenches or grinds.
	The EMA Appliance would be used for someone with a small mouth or for someone that needs a thin and non-bulky appliance. This appliance is not as durable as some of the other appliances but is very comfortable and allows for a lot of tongue room.
	The Oasys appliance is unique in that it has a mechanism to help open the nasal passages similar to what a Breathe-Rite strip will do. It also allows for a lot of tongue space and freedom of movement.
	The PM Positioner is a durable appliance with limited jaw movement for a patient that prefers to have the jaws stabilized. This appliance allows for a lot of tongue space as the adjustment mechanism is on the sides of the appliance.
	The TRD or tongue retaining device uses suction to hold the tongue forward in the mouth during sleep. It is best suited for patients with dentures, very few teeth, or patients that have large tongues.
	The Silent Nite appliance is a lower cost option that Dr. Beadling will only consider in cases of snoring without sleep apnea. It is a comfortable appliance and allows for a lot of tongue space and a moderate amount of movement, but it is not as durable as the other appliances.
